If you are looking to make your own coffee at home, there are countless coffee brewing methods at your disposal. The most known of the lot is probably cold brewing but Moka Pot is definitely getting up there in terms of popularity. Wanna know more about Moka pots and how you can use them to make terrific coffee drinks? Make sure to read till the end!
What Is A Moka Pot?
A Moka pot is a tool that is used to make coffee. It is a stove-top coffee maker, which means you will need to place it on the stove. The stove’s heat will boil the water in the pot, producing steam, which then diffuses through the coffee grounds. The steam will then cool down and form the liquid coffee. This technique can be seen as down to up, in contrast with most brewing methods that are up to down.
Does A Moka Pot Make Espresso?
Technically, no. The coffee you get from Moka pots is certainly strong and bold, but it is not an espresso. The flavour is not as rich and the crema is not very foamy. Moka pot coffee is actually much closer to an Americano rather than espresso.
A major reason for this is that espresso machines usually force water through ground coffee with 9 bars of pressure, while a Moka pot only reaches 1 to 3 bars. However, when mixed with other things, their flavours are pretty much the same. This is why Moka pot coffee is sometimes used as a substitute in other coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.
