An oat milk latte is a fairly straightforward type of coffee that is usually created by mixing espresso and oat milk.
It’s a perfect dairy-free coffee option for vegans and those with lactose intolerance. With its sweet, thick, and creamy texture it is of little wonder why oat milk lattes are really popular as of late.
Today we will be diving into how to make a delicious oat milk latte. Don’t have a coffee machine? No worries, you can also whip up this drink without one!
Preparation
Firstly, you will need to prepare your espresso.
You can make your own espresso with an espresso machine, a standard coffee maker, or a French Press. The brewing method does not matter as long as your espresso is freshly brewed; this allows it to mix better with the oat milk. You can also go for either a single or double-shot espresso according to your preference.
Next up is the oat milk.
We highly recommend using barista blend oat milk. Compared with standard oat milk, this will result in a smoother, velvety texture and a much richer crema on top. If you don’t have barista oat milk then the regular one will work too.
You can also prepare an optional sweetener if you are a fan of sweet latte.
Steps To Create The Perfect Oat Milk Latte
Ingredients:
- Freshly Brewed Espresso
- Barista or Standard Oat Milk
- Sweetener (optional)
Method 1: Stovetop
This method is perfect if you don’t have a fancy espresso machine to steam your oat milk.
Equipment:
- Saucepan
- Whisk
- Blender
- Frothing Wand (optional)
Steps:
- Grab about one cup of your barista or regular oat milk and pour it into a saucepan
- Heat it on the stove over medium heat and whisk vigorously for a few minutes until it simmers and starts to thicken
- Remove the oat milk from the stovetop and blend it in the blender until a creamy foam is produced at the top (you can also use a frothing wand to do this)
- Pour your freshly brewed espresso into a mug, before pouring the oat milk on top of it
- Use a spoon to skim and spoon out the froth on top
Method 2: Espresso Machine
This method is perfect if you don’t have a fancy espresso machine to steam your oat milk.
Equipment:
- Espresso Machine
- Metallic milk jug
Steps:
- Pour the oat milk into the metallic milk jug
- Insert the steam wand into the jug and steam the oat milk until warm (about 55℃) and make sure to do this at a slight angle to form that creamy foam on top
- After it is done, pour it on top of your freshly brewed espresso and use a spoon to skim the foam
Tips For Better Tasting Oat Milk Latte
- Want to further enhance your latte? Then be sure to follow these tips:
- While steaming the oat milk, use a thermometer to make sure it reaches 55℃. This is the ideal temperature for an oat milk latte.
- Use a 1:3 coffee to oat milk ratio to create the perfect balance.
- You can opt for caffeine-free espresso if you prefer not to drink caffeine.
