What is Tiramisu Cake?
Tiramisu is an Italian dessert made of coffee and brandy-soaked sponge cakes (ladyfingers). It is layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cream. Tiramisu is typically flavored and finished with cocoa at the end.
Tiramisu cake gets its name from the Italian phrase ti ra mi su, which translates to “pick-me-up” in English.
Traditional tiramisu is made by first separating the eggs and then whipping the yolks and whites separately with sugar. Each mixture is then folded into the others before being topped with mascarpone. Some modern-style tiramisu includes additional flavors or toppings. Tiramisu baileys, for example, incorporate the baileys flavor into the cake. There is also a tiramisu in glass, which is a clever way to serve individual portions of the classic Italian dessert.
