Make cold brew coffee at home! It’s so easy with this simple cold brew coffee recipe. Your cold brew coffee will no longer taste watery and bitter.
Summer is quickly approaching! Nothing beats sitting outside in the sunshine with a glass of cold brew coffee. Despite the fact that cold brew has only recently gained popularity, this favorite iced coffee has been popular among Japanese brewers since the 1600s.
The way Japanese cold brew coffee is made differs from the way most American coffee shops make cold brew coffee. In Japan, coffee grounds and water are slowly dripped through a paper filter to extract the coffee liquid. Americans, on the other hand, prefer to mix coffee ground and water and let it sit for 12 to 24 hours. There isn’t much of a difference in taste between the two methods.
Knowing the two techniques for making cold brew, we can say that making cold brew coffee isn’t a big secret, and it doesn’t require the ninja-level skills of a trained barista to master. You don’t even need any special equipment; all you need is a large container or a bottle, as well as a strainer.
Making cold brew in french press can be another option if you don’t have a bottle or strainer.
Preparation to Make Cold Brew Coffee
- Weigh about 20 grams (12 tsp) of your favorite freshly roasted coffee beans.
- Grind the coffee coarsely (about the size of sugar).
- Prepare cups of cold water.
- Prepare almond milk or condensed milk.
Making Cold Brew Coffee: The Process
- Put the 20 gram of coffee ground into a container or french press.
- Pour up to 300 ml of cold water over the coffee grounds (here, we are using the 1:15 method).
- Using a wooden spoon, stir everything together (do not use a metal spoon to avoid metallic taste on the coffee).
- Put the coffee liquid into a refrigerator and let it sit for 12 to 24 hours.
- If you’re using a french press, don’t press the lid yet.
Serving Cold Brew Coffee Like Your Favorite Coffee Shops
Serving cold brew coffee is entirely up to you. Some serve cold brew coffee with milk, flavored syrups, or even tonic water with lemon syrup.
If you ask us, making cold brew with almond milk is our all time favorite. This is how we serve cold brew with almond milk:
- Put 90 to 100 ml of almond milk into a glass.
- Add ice cubes.
- Filter cold brew using a strainer, then pour the liquid into milk and ice cubes.
- If you use a french press, press the lid slowly before pouring.
- Add condensed milk if you like sweeter ice coffee.
- Finally, stir everything before drinking.
