In this article we will show you how to make iced coffee in simple steps yet remain tasty!
Iced coffee is less acidic!
It’s true that some people cannot enjoy an acidic coffee, especially if it is served hot. By mixing with ice, coffee can be less acidic. In 2021, Starbucks reported that 74 percent of beverage sales in Q3 were considered part of the “cold category” which is a 10 percent increase over the past two years. It is no surprise that Starbucks iced coffee such as lattes or Frappuccino are always outsold.
This might seem surprising considering the classic nature of hot coffee, but it is interesting to think about considering many people were inside last year due to the pandemic and perhaps opted for an iced drink since they didn’t need a warm drink to heat them up.
Still, just because the numbers seem to be trending upward as far as iced drinks and their popularity, iced coffee remains a classic option if you are craving for cold drinks.
In this recipe we will show you how to make iced coffee with and without milk.
Iced coffee without milk
Let’s start with something classic first; a black coffee on top of ice cubes. Yes, it is as simple as it is.
Ingredients
- 20 grams of fresh ground coffee
- 100 grams of ice cubes
- Dried lemon slice (optional)
Instructions
- Grind your favorite coffee beans at the grind size of your favorite brewing method. If you are using Japanese V60, grind your coffee as coarse as table salt. If you prefer using a Moka Pot, grind your coffee finely.
- Brew your coffee. If you are using a French Press, brew your coffee in 1:10 ratio. If you’re using a Japanese V60, brew your coffee in 1:15 ratio. This ratio has been set to avoid your coffee from watery or too acidic.
- After the coffee is brewed, set aside. You can chill your coffee at room temperature or in a refrigerator. Wait for an hour or two.
- Once your coffee is cold enough, put the ice cubes in.
- Finally, topped with a dried lemon slice to bring up the fruity flavor.
