What is latte?

Before we can teach you how to make a latte, we must first define what a latte is. It’s an abbreviation for caffè latte, which is Italian for coffee with milk. So lattes are a blend of espresso and steamed milk, topped with a dollop of milk foam onto which a barista can draw artistic latte art.

Traditionally, lattes are made using an espresso machine. But in this recipe we will show you how to make a latte without an espresso machine.

Latte VS. Cappuccino: The differences

Latte and cappuccino are both espresso-based drinks. The difference is that latte has a higher steamed milk ratio than cappuccino. When making a latte, a barista usually uses a 1:2 ratio. On the other hand, cappuccino. Because of the 1:1 ratio, cappuccino has a stronger espresso flavor than latte. Latte is also endlessly customizable, and is frequently transformed into a sweet version by adding flavors such as Vanilla and Hazelnut.

At the end of this article, we’ll show you how to make a sweet version of latte.

How to make espresso without a machine

The answer is a Moka Pot. This ‘stovetop espresso machine’ produces espresso-style coffee. We compare it to espresso because of the intense and bold flavor. When making a milk-based coffee beverage like latte, this flavor is what you’re looking for. .

However, we do not claim that it can replace or produce the same consistency as espresso from a machine. Modern espresso machines use 8-10 bars of pressure to brew espresso. This is equivalent to 5-10 times the pressure of a moka pot. Moka pots, on the other hand, use high pressure to brew coffee, but only 1-2 bars.

To make espresso-like using a moka pot, just simply ground coffee finely, fill the coffee powder into the basket, add water, put the moka pot over the stove and wait until coffee liquid sprouts.

How to make steamed milk

Even if you don’t have an espresso machine, steamed milk is simple to make. Steam the milk in the microwave or on the stovetop. Stovetop is preferred for steamed milk because you have more control over the heat.

How to Froth the milk

You’ll need a milk frother or frothing wand for this one. Pour warm milk into a pitcher to make froth milk. Turn on the frothing wand and gradually bring it closer to the surface of the milk. Return the wand to the center in a gentle motion.

Continue lowering and raising the wand at an angle for 30 to 45 seconds, or until the pitcher or pan is full of foam.
